Quick answers about Diviide and bookmark separators. If you need more, the guides cover each topic in detail.

About Diviide

What is Diviide?
Diviide is a free tool that makes separators for your bookmarks bar. Pick a color, drag a separator onto your bar, and it marks the start of a group so you can find your links fast.
What is a bookmark separator?
A separator divides your bookmarks bar into groups, so it's easy to scan at a glance.
Is Diviide free?
Yes, completely. No ads and no advertising trackers. And the code is open source, so you are free to use it, adapt it, or contribute.

If you find Diviide useful, you can help support the project and maintenance costs.

Do I need to install an extension?
No. Diviide is a website, not an extension. You drag separators straight from the page onto your bookmarks bar, so there is nothing to install.

Using Diviide

How do I add a separator?
Pick a color, choose a separator, and drag it onto your bookmarks bar. The browser keeps it, ready to use.
How do I change the color?
Pick a color in the sidebar before you drag. Every separator switches to that color, so you can see it first.
Can I add a label to a separator?
Yes. Open the Label section in the sidebar, turn on Include label, and type your text before you drag. The separator arrives with the label on it. This is ideal for titling a bookmark folder.
Can I separate bookmarks without a visible divider?
Yes. The Diviide Space Separator opens a clean gap between groups and shows nothing else, so your bar reads as sections with no line or icon. See the space separator guide.
Can I reorder my separators?
Yes. Drag any bookmark or separator along the bar to move it. Place a separator at the start of each group.
How do I remove a separator?
Right click the separator on your bar and choose Delete. It is a bookmark, so it comes off like any other.

Bookmarks

How do I create a bookmark?
Open the page and press Ctrl + D (Cmd + D on a Mac), or click the star in the address bar. Choose the bookmarks bar as the location so it shows on your bar.
How do I rename a bookmark?
Right click the bookmark and choose Edit. Change the name, then save. You can change the web address the same way.
How do I remove the text from a bookmark?
Edit the bookmark and clear the name field, then save. The bookmark then shows only the website favicon, with no text, which saves space on your bar.
How do I delete a bookmark?
Right click it and choose Delete. To clear several at once, open the bookmark manager, select them, and delete them together.

Folders

How do I make a bookmark folder?
Right click an empty part of the bookmarks bar and choose Add folder. Name it, then drag bookmarks into it.
Why do bookmarks look different inside a folder?
On the bar, bookmarks sit side by side, left to right. Inside a folder they stack top to bottom in a list. So a folder reads like a menu, while the bar reads like a row.

Browsers

Which browsers work best?
Diviide is built for Chrome and other Chromium browsers: Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Arc. They cache the icon as you drag it in, so the separator keeps its icon and color the moment you drop it.
Do bookmark separators work in Chrome?
Yes, and Chrome is where they work best. The same goes for other Chromium browsers like Edge, Brave, and Arc: the favicon is cached as you drag the icon over, so the separator keeps its icon and color.
Does Diviide work in Safari or Firefox?
Not fully. In Safari it takes extra steps: confirm the name when you drop the separator, then click it once to load the icon, and after that it holds. In Firefox it does not work: a bookmark takes the icon of the page it was dragged from, so a click reverts your separator. For separators that just work, use a Chromium browser like Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Arc. See the browser support guide for the full picture.
Does it work on phones?
A computer is easiest, since you drag separators onto the bookmarks bar. You can make them on a phone too, just save one like a normal bookmark and move it into place. If your browser syncs bookmarks, they show on your other devices. See the bookmarks on mobile guide for more.

Gray globes

Why do my bookmarks show a gray globe?
A gray globe shows when the browser has no cached icon for that bookmark. Diviide loads the icon as you drag it, so the globe does not appear.
How do I get rid of a gray globe?
Visit the page the bookmark points to so the browser caches its icon, or use a separator from Diviide, which loads the icon as you drag it so the globe never appears.
Will my separators turn into gray globes later?
No. Once the browser caches the icon, it stays. Diviide caches it at the moment you drag the separator in.

Contact and privacy

How do I get in touch?
You can email hello@divii.de, or open an issue on GitHub to report a bug. We read every message. If you have made a bookmarks bar you love, feel free to send a screenshot too. We would love to see how you use it.
Do you show ads or track me?
No ads, and no advertising or third-party trackers, ever. To keep the app working we use privacy-friendly, anonymous monitoring that records errors and basic usage. It holds no personal data and no profiles, none of it is sold, and we honor your browser Do Not Track setting. Diviide does not need an account.

If you find Diviide useful, you can help support the project and maintenance costs.
