How to edit and rename bookmarks and separators

You can rename a bookmark, change its web address, or remove its text completely. A separator is a bookmark too, so you can edit it the same way. Here is how, plus a tip to save space on your bar.

Rename or edit a bookmark

In Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Arc, right click the bookmark, then choose Edit. You can change the name or the address.

Safari and Firefox let you do the same. In Safari, Control-click the bookmark on the Favorites bar and choose Rename, or open the Bookmarks menu, then Edit Bookmarks, to change its address too. In Firefox, right-click the bookmark and choose Edit Bookmark, then change the name or address.

Why bookmark names get long

When you save a page, the browser uses the page's title as the bookmark name. Sites often pack that title with extra words to help them show up in search results. So you end up with a long name like "Best Running Shoes 2026, Reviews and Buying Guide" for one link. On your bar, long names push everything sideways and make it look messy. Renaming or removing the text fixes that.

Remove the text to save space

Here is a handy trick. Edit a bookmark and clear the name field. The bookmark then shows only the website favicon, with no text. That saves space, so more bookmarks fit on the bar. The trade off is that it is less clear at a glance. It works best when the site has a favicon you recognize, like a well known logo. For sites with a plain icon, keep a short label.

Edit a separator

A Diviide separator comes with no text, which keeps it clean. When you do want a label, the easiest way is to add it in Diviide before you drag. Open the Label section in the sidebar, turn on Include label, and type your text. The separator then arrives with the label already on it.

You can also add or change the text later, like any bookmark. Right click the separator, choose Edit, and type a short label. Either way, a label is useful when you want the separator to title a group, for example inside a bookmark folder.
